ELECTRICAL

American Trade School’s  Electrical program consists of six consecutive ten
week terms for a total of sixty weeks or fourteen months in length.  

Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8:30am – 1:00pm or 6:00 – 10:30pm.
INTRODUCTION TO DC ELECTRICITY:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the concepts of DC principals as applied to
Electricians in today’s workplace; residential, and commercial.  Focus on Ohm’s Law as applied to DC circuits,
atomic theory, electromotive force, resistance, electrical power equations, electrical safety and troubleshooting
techniques.

INTRODUCTION TO AC ELECTRICITY:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the concepts of AC principals as applied to
Electricians in today’s workplace; residential and commercial.   Focus on Kirchoff’s voltage and current laws,
inductive and capacitive series circuits, parallel circuit’s loads, electrical safety and troubleshooting.

RESIDENTIAL 1:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the installation of residential electrical
circuits.  Focus on blueprint reading, calculation of entrance service, different types of electrical devices
(receptacles, switches, fans etc.), low voltage concepts and National Electrical Code.

RESIDENTIAL 2:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the installation of residential electrical
circuits.  Focus on special purpose branch circuits, laundry, water heaters, furnaces, water systems, food waste
disposals, dish washers, low voltage and National Electrical Code.

RESIDENTIAL 3:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the installation of residential electrical
circuits.  Focus on installation and replacement of electrical services, installation and troubleshooting of all types
of branch circuits in new residences, also in rehabbing older residences, and National Electrical Code.

COMMERCIAL ELECTRICITY:
10 weeks – 12 Quarter Credit Hours

This term provides an introduction to and hands-on lab projects for the concept of three-phase circuits and
feeders in commercial environments.  Focus on electrical symbols, sizing transformers, lighting, conduit,
distribution systems, harmonics, calculations for overload protection, electrical devices (receptacles, switches,
motors and electrical cabinets), troubleshooting and National Electrical Code.
